By examining recent advancements and exploring potential future developments, we aim to provide a comprehensive picture of the role AI may play in transforming healthcare. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. \u003Cstrong>Regulation for adaptive algorithms will arrive\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Flocked-and-adaptive-algorithms-in-healthcare-differences-importance-and-regulatory-hurdles\u002F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Adaptive algorithms\u003C\u002Fa> are notoriously tricky to regulate due to their constantly changing nature.&nbsp;\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>So far, only locked algorithms have been approved. Large Language Models (like ChatGPT and MedPaLM) will receive some form of regulation\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Large Language Models (like \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Fwhats-next-for-chatgpt-in-healthcare\" target=\"_blank\">ChatGPT\u003C\u002Fa> and Google’s \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Fmedpalm-new-ai-medical-chatbots-will-soon-be-better-than-waiting-for-a-doctor\" target=\"_blank\">MedPaLM\u003C\u002Fa>)&nbsp;will likely receive some form of regulation this year, as it is impossible that millions of people, including doctors and patients use them daily without any regulatory guidance.&nbsp;\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>LLM regulation will probably be an entirely new category, distinct from the way other AI-based medical technologies have been regulated so far.&nbsp;\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Regulators need to develop oversight mechanisms that consider the unique challenges posed by LLMs, such as interpretability, fairness, and unintended consequences. Tokenization, a crucial aspect of LLMs in natural language processing, is currently not regulated in healthcare and requires attention. On top of that, given LLMs&#8217; broad applicability across various domains, a one-size-fits-all regulatory framework is not suitable. Regulators must address diverse industry-specific concerns, and healthcare &#8211; a matter of life and death &#8211; will be the most complicated of all.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u003Cstrong>4. Doomsday Knights will ban large language models\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It is very likely that some countries or regions will decide to address potential issues by banning the use of large language models. However, this may not be an effective solution for several reasons. First, even moderately motivated users can easily find ways to circumvent such regulations. Moreover, a better long-term approach would involve the smart utilization of LLMs, the development of appropriate regulations, and education for users on how to work with AI.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Nevertheless, there surely will be individuals who prefer \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.reuters.com\u002Ftechnology\u002Fchatgpt-is-available-again-users-italy-spokesperson-says-2023-04-28\u002F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a more extreme approach\u003C\u002Fa>, akin to &#8220;salting the earth&#8221; to prevent the \u003Cem>impending doom\u003C\u002Fem>.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u003Cstrong>5. We will see \u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003Cstrong>yet undiscovered \u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003Cstrong>medical areas for AI solutions\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>While the number of applied AI solutions will increase in established areas (e.g., radiology, oncology) we will finally see new ones (e.g., mental health) as well.&nbsp;\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>This is exciting because even in fields rich in interactions and creative tasks that are less prone to automation, AI usage will begin to emerge. New, \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.aljazeera.com\u002Feconomy\u002F2023\u002F4\u002F27\u002Fcould-your-next-therapist-be-ai-tech-raises-hopes-concerns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">innovative models\u003C\u002Fa> &#8211; like paid subscribers can access an AI chatbot but are also routed to a human therapist if their queries escalate &#8211; will be developed for these purposes.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u003Cstrong>6. And as we were all cut off from our favourite spaces and moves, we had the chance to find new ones; or at least new ways of doing our favourite exercise. But it wasn’t just what we \u003Cem>did\u003C\u002Fem>. It was what we \u003Cem>used\u003C\u002Fem> to keep track of our progress. Our smartwatches and health trackers. So it’s just obvious to talk about what type of tracker we should be buying.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">My 7+1 recommendations\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>I believe there is the right tracker for everyone. But before you buy one off the shelf, you should do your homework and find out which one was made for you – based on your own expectations, needs, preferences and so on.&nbsp;\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>I’m not going to start comparing devices: such lists are being made every day. Furthermore, such a list would soon become obsolete due to rapid changes in the market. I have tried and tested over a hundred such devices, from \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Fsleep-tracking-2-0-viatom-o2-sleep-monitor-review\" target=\"_blank\">smart sleep trackers\u003C\u002Fa> through \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Fnew-study-kardiaband-apple-watch\" target=\"_blank\">ECG watches\u003C\u002Fa> to an \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Fwireless-and-scanning-the-clarius-portable-ultrasound-review\" target=\"_blank\">AI ultrasound\u003C\u002Fa>. \u003Cstrong>To sum it up, what I can do is help you choose the right one, based on my widespread experience.\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. \u003Cstrong>Regulatory approval\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It is quite important to check if the device has regulatory approval. Smart devices and trackers need to go through a number of safety and quality tests. To prove that they have done these rounds, they receive regulatory approval that is proven by an institution; like an \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.fda.gov\u002Fvaccines-blood-biologics\u002Fcomplete-list-licensed-products-and-establishments\" target=\"_blank\">FDA approval\u003C\u002Fa> or a \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fsupport.ce-check.eu\u002Fhc\u002Fen-us\u002Farticles\u002F360007114512-Validate-a-CE-mark\" target=\"_blank\">CE-mark\u003C\u002Fa>. Depending on where they applied for the test, FDA is the US-based process; CE-mark is standard in Europe; and, obviously, each region has its own processes and abbreviations. It shows how a company really treats its consumers and covers any kind of technical, installation or maintenance support. It is always worth checking the reviews online (like on Amazon or other sites) or in the AppStore\u002FGooglePlay. Here you can also see how the developers react to the complaints.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. \u003Cstrong>Credibility\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>I came across smartwatches that could repel mosquitoes while measuring ECG; give you electric shocks when you \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Ftime.com\u002F4387701\u002Fweirdest-gadgets-ever\u002F\" target=\"_blank\">engage in a bad habit\u003C\u002Fa>; measure everything or forecast earthquakes. Believe me: the more they promise the less they are likely to deliver.&nbsp;\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Trust your gut: if a watch or a device promises to measure too many health parameters, beware. It might promise too much. It would be fantastic, but unlikely that a small garage company will find the Holy Grail of health trackers. Expect something like that from major players (buying small garage bands to use their discoveries).\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. \u003Cstrong>Communication\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Check out the online communication output of the company. You can get a clear picture of the developers by looking at their social channels. How active they are, how they talk to consumers, what they feel is important to share say a lot. Transparency and honesty are the keywords to look for.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. \u003Cstrong>Technical strengths\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Okay, so this is definitely something we always check in our reviews – and you should do so, too. Strong battery life and a smooth Bluetooth connection are key to my gadget-happiness. I personally would never buy a device I’d need to charge every day. Medical and scientific results and studies are not easy to comprehend for the average user; however, companies usually do a good job interpreting these findings and results. Use your logic and spend a bit of time here to save you time on the other end.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. \u003Cstrong>Download\u003C\u002Fstrong> \u003Cstrong>raw data\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>I want to download my raw data as I collect and use them a lot. Not all devices support this feature, and big companies like Fitbit usually prefer not to share if you can download your own data. It is definitely my own preference, decide for yourself if it’s something you’d do or not.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">+1: \u003Cstrong>Smartphone connection\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Take 5 minutes to see if the device is compatible with your phone. You’ll thank yourself later.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>These steps will certainly help you find the right device for you. If it is a smartwatch or any health tracker, it will also be dependent on the platform you use (iOs or Android) and, of course, your budget. But please also consider that lesser-known brands also tend to give less information for example on their use of your data.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Chr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\u002F>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>So please also consider the privacy issues that come with any device you store your health (or any kind of) data on.
