In an \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.nytimes.com\u002Finteractive\u002F2019\u002F12\u002F19\u002Fopinion\u002Flocation-tracking-cell-phone.html\" target=\"_blank\">eye-opening piece\u003C\u002Fa> published last December, the \u003Cem>New York Times\u003C\u002Fem> showed how, by using only a fraction of location data obtained from a location data company mining that information from various apps, they could track and identify people from military officials to Hollywood stars. Your fitness tracker. The device and\u002For its companion app will thereafter present the collected data in a nice map for you to analyze your outdoor running session or hike. Sure, they might claim that your location data is anonymized and secure with no identifiable information but the \u003Cem>New York Times\u003C\u002Fem>’ article called it “child’s play to connect real names to the dots that appear on the maps”. In certain cases, people suffering from eating disorders \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.sciencedirect.com\u002Fscience\u002Farticle\u002Fpii\u002FS1471015316303646\" target=\"_blank\">had their condition worsened\u003C\u002Fa> with the use of fitness trackers.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u003Cstrong>At that price, it should be accurate&#8230; right?\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>With the cost of wearables often reaching as much as or more than smartphones (the Apple Watch Series 5 \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.apple.com\u002Fshop\u002Fbuy-watch\u002Fapple-watch\" target=\"_blank\">starts at $400\u003C\u002Fa>), potential buyers might be put off by the price tag of the more accurate ones while they’re more doubtful about the cheaper ones. Moreover, users  might worry whether the data they get is accurate and practically useful. Buzzing again, your wearable will send you a notification about this.
