We introduced several already, check \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Fhow-an-a-i-based-skin-checking-app-can-work-with-a-national-healthcare-system\u002F\">here\u003C\u002Fa> or \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Faspiring-dermatology-app-under-the-microscope-the-skinvision-review\u002F\">here\u003C\u002Fa>.&nbsp;\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Earlier we called these apps an emerging trend, and still stand by this statement. If you are looking for a signature digital health solution, these are great examples, as they:\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\u003Cli>address an existing demand\u003C\u002Fli>\n\n\n\n\u003Cli>rely on already existing infrastructure from the patients’ side (e.g.: their mobile phones)\u003C\u002Fli>\n\n\n\n\u003Cli>provide easy and cheap access to patients who otherwise might have difficulties with scheduling dermatology appointments for any reason, like physical distance, insurance problems, anxiety and so on\u003C\u002Fli>\n\n\n\n\u003Cli>allow fast and reliable evaluation of skin lesions, cutting down waiting times\u003C\u002Fli>\n\n\n\n\u003Cli>eliminate unnecessary medical visits, saving time for both patient and clinician\u003C\u002Fli>\n\n\n\n\u003Cli>assist dermatologists, who can check significantly more cases in a given amount of time\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Ful>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>We could even conclude that if such a system provides follow-up and access to doctors and treatments should the need arise, these are close to the optimal digital health setup – they filter out non-existing cases and let dermatologists focus on the real issues.&nbsp;\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The need for such applications is obvious. Skin cancer is one of the most common cancer types worldwide: \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.skincancer.org\u002Fskin-cancer-information\u002Fskin-cancer-facts\u002F#:~:text=1%20in%205%20Americans%20will,doubles%20your%20risk%20for%20melanoma.\">one in five people\u003C\u002Fa> in the U.S. is expected to receive a skin cancer diagnosis during their lifetime. Early detection and treatment are invaluable: almost all skin cancers (both melanoma and nonmelanoma) can be cured if found and treated early. Prevention and detection are the keys. And of course, everyone should have a skin check done from time to time &#8211; but not everyone has the option to have it.&nbsp;That is why these apps were \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Fhow-will-a-i-penetrate-healthcare-through-your-skin-voice-and-cough\u002F\" target=\"_blank\">one of our bets\u003C\u002Fa> for the first real-life applications of AI that will be widely used by patients.  \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Thus we decided to map out this field and collect the globally available applications for skin diagnostics. Most come with built-in AI features, but not all of them. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The ones with a green dot are available on that mobile platform whether it&#8217;s Android or iOS. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">There are lots of apps, with different capabilities\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>We collected 15 applications, but these offer widely varying services. Before you commit (pay), make sure you understand what you sign up for. What are the services these apps offer?\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\u003Cli>Some are purely for self-tracking &#8211; these allow you to take pictures of your moles and allow you to track if they change (\u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmolemapper.org\u002F\">MoleMapper\u003C\u002Fa>, \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.uofmhealth.org\u002F\">UMSkinCheck\u003C\u002Fa>)\u003C\u002Fli>\n\n\n\n\u003Cli>Others do the same but are AI-backed, where the algorithm will compare if there is a change in your moles (\u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmiiskin.com\u002Fapp\u002F\">Miiskin\u003C\u002Fa>, \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fapps.apple.com\u002Fgb\u002Fapp\u002Fcube-check-ur-birthmark-easily\u002Fid1643471135\">CUBE\u003C\u002Fa>)\u003C\u002Fli>\n\n\n\n\u003Cli>There are also differences in what kind of skin problems various apps analyse, many are only “interested” in skin cancer (like \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.skinvision.com\u002Fabout\u002F\">SkinVision\u003C\u002Fa>), while others are capable of diagnosing a wide variety of skin conditions (like \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Faskaysa.com\u002F\">aysa\u003C\u002Fa> or \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fskinive.com\u002F\">Skinive\u003C\u002Fa>)\u003C\u002Fli>\n\n\n\n\u003Cli>Yet another difference is if they offer you an evaluation by a human dermatologist, some do (\u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.scanoma.com\u002F\">Scanoma\u003C\u002Fa>, \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fskinio.com\u002F\">SkinIO\u003C\u002Fa> or \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.dermadetect.com\u002F\">DermaDetect\u003C\u002Fa>\u002FMyDermafor example), but most apps don’t.
