But no matter how scary the future might seem at the moment, we cannot stop technological development; and sooner or later we will find out that whole areas of our lives have been transformed through various technologies. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Thus, our task is to turn to technologies with an open mind and to prepare for the changing world with as much knowledge as possible.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Technology can only aid and improve our lives if we stand on its shoulders and if we are always (at least) two steps ahead. Their deep convolutional neural network, AtomNet, screens more than 100 million compounds each day.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Fmedpalm-new-ai-medical-chatbots-will-soon-be-better-than-waiting-for-a-doctor\u002F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Google’s Med-PaLM\u003C\u002Fa> is the first large language model specifically trained for medical purposes, and its second iteration is reported to be \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fyoutu.be\u002F3Ud-BMOCkDI?si=mGYdO5Diehww1s5e&amp;t=279\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">significantly outperforming \u003C\u002Fa>the first version. In this example, physicians \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fnews.microsoft.com\u002Fen-gb\u002F2020\u002F05\u002F19\u002Fimperial-college-healthcare-nhs-trust-uses-microsoft-hololens-to-protect-doctors-and-reduce-need-for-ppe\u002F\" target=\"_blank\">employed the MR headset\u003C\u002Fa>&nbsp;to hold hands-free conversations with colleagues and patients while viewing medical notes and X-rays for clinical decision-making.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Health trackers, wearables and sensors\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>As the future of medicine and healthcare is closely connected to the empowerment of patients as well as individuals taking care of their own health through healthcare technologies, I cannot leave out health trackers, wearables and sensors from my selection. They are great devices for getting to know more about ourselves and retake control over our own lives. Portable diagnostics devices\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>When it comes to gadgets and instant solutions, there is the great dream that every healthcare professional shares: to have one almighty and omnipotent device, with which you can diagnose and analyze every disease. It even materialized – although only on screen – as the medical tricorder in \u003Cem>Star Trek\u003C\u002Fem>. When Dr McCoy grabbed his tricorder and scanned a patient, the portable, hand–held device immediately listed vital signs, other parameters, and a diagnosis. The \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Ffirst-medical-tricorder-viatom-checkme-pro-review\u002F\" target=\"_blank\">Viatom CheckMe Pro\u003C\u002Fa> is one such palm-sized gadget which can measure ECG, heart rate, oxygen saturation, temperature, blood pressure and more! There are also other companies working on similar devices like the \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Fces-2020-the-wows-and-the-whys-in-health-tech-innovation\u002F\" target=\"_blank\">MedWand\u003C\u002Fa> which on top of measuring multiple vital parameters, includes a camera for telemedical purposes. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Then there’s the FDA-cleared \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fbiointellisense.com\u002F\">BioSticker\u003C\u002Fa> from BioIntelliSense which, despite being tiny and thin, can measure a wide range of parameters such as respiratory rate, heart rate, skin temperature, body position, activity levels, sleep status, gait and more. And of course, we shouldn&#8217;t forget about \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Fwireless-and-scanning-the-clarius-portable-ultrasound-review\" target=\"_blank\">portable ultrasounds\u003C\u002Fa> like the Philips Lumify and the Clarius Portable Ultrasound we tested a while ago or the&nbsp;\u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.youtube.com\u002Fwatch?v=_MvImEQhUzM\" target=\"_blank\">Kosmos by EchoNous\u003C\u002Fa>, so far the only portable ultrasound benchmarked against cart-based machines I could try. Especially if you consider that a few years later DNA sequencing giant \u003Ca href=\"http:\u002F\u002Fwww.illumina.com\u002Fsystems\u002Fsequencing-platforms\u002Fnovaseq\u002Fintroduction.html#.WHVn1LYrKqA\">Illumina\u003C\u002Fa> \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Ftechcrunch.com\u002F2017\u002F01\u002F10\u002Fillumina-wants-to-sequence-your-whole-genome-for-100\u002F\">unveiled a new machine\u003C\u002Fa> that the company says is “expected one day” to order up your whole genome for less than $100. Now we must wait for clear details of their technology. Optogenetics, using light to control cell behavior in living tissues still remains a promise for the far future. But without such steps, technologies will not be able to enter the market in earnest.
