Semaglutide injections are sold under different brand names: Ozempic and Rybelsus are supposed to be prescribed to diabetes patients, while Wegovy was specifically developed for treating obesity.&nbsp;\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>These drugs belong to the group of GLP-1 receptor agonists, a category everybody just calls weight loss injections.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The miracle-drug epidemic\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>In the past few years, Ozempic (and the rest) has become a household name for the wealthy families of the most developed countries. It is best known as the miracle drug that makes you skinny without any effort, something that you can easily lay your hands on if you are ok with paying the $1000+ monthly price of moderate appetite. \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.theverge.com\u002F23878992\u002Fro-ozempic-subway-ads-telehealth-weight-loss-drugs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Regardless of whether you are supposed to get the injections\u003C\u002Fa> from the medical point of view.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>How come these drugs became a magic injection epidemic marketed by 19-year-old influencers on TikTok and A-list Hollywood celebrities? Legends from Oprah Winfrey to Whoopi Goldberg, from Al Roker to Elon Musk \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fpeople.com\u002Fcelebrities-ozempic-wegovy-what-theyve-said-7104926\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">have an opinion on the issue\u003C\u002Fa>, and it’s almost impossible to keep track of the dozens (or hundreds) who openly speak about using Ozempic to lose or manage weight.&nbsp;\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The issue is a trending topic on all platforms, the #ozempic hashtag has well over a billion views on TikTok, where \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.mmm-online.com\u002Fhome\u002Fchannel\u002Fmeet-tiktoks-glp-1-influencers-ozempic-wegovy-mounjaro\u002F#:~:text=Influencers%20from%20Kim%20Kardashian%20and,such%20rumors%20on%20social%20media.\" target=\"_blank\">GLP-1 influencers\u003C\u002Fa> share their experiences with the audience. They have tens or hundreds of thousands of followers, and they don’t rush to disclose what kinds of sponsorships are \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Ffortune.com\u002F2023\u002F09\u002F19\u002Finside-ozempic-tiktok-weight-loss-influencers-hidden-economy-telehealth-cash-drug-discounts-mounjaro-glp1-wegovy\u002F\" target=\"_blank\">behind their weight loss content\u003C\u002Fa> and often fail to mention potential side effects.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>But the hype is not only visible on individual levels. In 2023, \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.fiercehealthcare.com\u002Fdigital-health\u002Fweightwatchers-acquisition-sequence-allows-expansion-remote-prescribing-hot-weight\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WeightWatchers acquired the telehealth company Sequence\u003C\u002Fa>. Soon after the company\u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Ftime.com\u002F6464785\u002Fweightwatchers-prescribing-weight-loss-drugs\u002F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">also launched WeightWatchers Clinic\u003C\u002Fa>, a platform where clients &#8211; who qualify &#8211; get prescription weight loss medication. Quite an addition to WW’s traditional focus on nutrition and exercise. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ozempic alone won’t be enough in the long run\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>However, if you are willing to see a little beyond the borders of fairyland, it is obvious that the miracle drug narrative should be taken with a grain of salt. Quite a few people talk about how stopping Ozempic makes you immediately gain back the lost weight, including \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.eonline.com\u002Fnews\u002F1397394\u002Fwhy-dr-terry-dubrow-says-he-will-definitely-give-ozempic-another-try\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Terry Dubrow\u003C\u002Fa> or \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fpeople.com\u002Fhealth\u002Fremi-bader-says-she-gained-double-the-weight-back-after-stopping-weight-loss-drug-ozempic\u002F\" target=\"_blank\">Remi Bader\u003C\u002Fa>.
