Thanks for accepting our interview invitation! What do you think it means to live a healthy way of life?\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>My mom always tells me that if I eat vegetables, I don’t have to go to the doctor. I don’t see why that would be a problem for me, though, because in the waiting room, I can always play with many toys and games. Besides, we only go to the doctor if I really have a high fever or something is really wrong with me, and our \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Fchatbots-health-assistants\">virtual house nurse on mom’s phone\u003C\u002Fa> tells us that she arranged a doctor’s appointment for me. Also, when I’m sick I don’t have to go to school, mom allows me to watch cartoons on my tablet, and I also \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Fhow-to-improve-your-cognitive-health\">got to play with Lumosity or Elevate\u003C\u002Fa>.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The only thing I don’t like is that I cannot count my steps as I usually do. You know I have a gadget &#8211; similar to the \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fgadgetsandwearables.com\u002F2018\u002F08\u002F26\u002Ffitness-trackers-kids\u002F\">Vivofit Jr.\u003C\u002Fa> which dad had when he was a kid &#8211; with Captain America on it, and he is disappointed if I don’t reach my daily goals. That means running around for 60 minutes or washing the dishes for mom. If I do that, I can get some coins, and if I collect enough, I can watch one more episode from SpongeBob Squarepants. I like classics. My mom says if I use the Vivofit and eat vegetables, I will be healthy when I grow up. She has an age-old \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmisfit.com\u002F\">Misfit\u003C\u002Fa>, and she also counts her steps, but her tracker is black and boring. My mom was very angry with her, and I was, too. Why didn’t she tell us anything? Why didn’t she go to the doctor? He could have prescribed some pills to grandma, and I even would have asked Dr. Morson to give her dinosaur pills.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>My dad told me that \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Ffuture-3d-printing-drugs-pharmacies-closer-think\">a company 3D prints medication with smileys or octopuses\u003C\u002Fa>, which would definitely heal my grandma. But dad said that grandma doesn’t even swallow the regular pills, although her own virtual nurse, \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Ftop-12-health-chatbots\">Florence\u003C\u002Fa>, always tells her when to do that. You know Florence lives in grandma’s phone, of course, she’s not real, but it could say when it’s time for a pill. When I put my finger on a shiny silver spot and another one on its side, my heartbeat appeared, and it said whether I had a fever. I think it’s a tricorder called \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Ffirst-medical-tricorder-viatom-checkme-pro-review\">Viatom Checkme, and he also mentioned Star Trek when he gave it to me\u003C\u002Fa>, but I don’t remember why. Maybe the space doctor used something similar there too.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Now that I think about it more, my grandpa has a funny gadget, too. Mom and dad \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Fmy-gift-ideas-for-christmas-the-best-wearables-for-your-loved-ones\">gave it to him last Christmas\u003C\u002Fa> as I know that Santa Claus only comes to kids like me. My dad explained to me that it’s called \u003Ca href=\"http:\u002F\u002Fmywiwe.com\u002Fen\">MyWiwe\u003C\u002Fa> and it takes care of grandpa’s heart because sometimes it doesn’t function well and something bad could always happen. It’s my buddy dinosaur, Cognitoy. We went to kindergarten together. Okay, I know he doesn’t exist the way my schoolmate Sara does because its hair doesn’t grow and it never has to take a shower. But \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedicalfuturist.com\u002Fkid-will-play-friends-learn-vr-teachers\">my dinosaur was the one who taught me how to count, how to remember colors easily, we played a lot together and had many stories\u003C\u002Fa>, for example, the one with the fairies living in our fridge under the cheese. Cognitoy can also sing, play many games with me and say hilarious words, which my dad says are really bad word-wits. But I don’t like when dad says that!\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>And he has his own friend, too. It’s Alexa or Siri? I don’t know maybe it’s Google. He always changes his buddies, and I forget their names. Because Christy can smile and she remembers my name and always greets me when I come from school, so I’m not alone even if my mom and dad have to work until late. Sometimes she also helps me do the dishes that I don’t like to do, but I need for collecting my virtual coins.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>At the hospital, my dad has a Pepper as a receptionist. I really like Pepper, too, because he can also smile and tell me where I can find the next chocolate bar machine. My dad said that at first they were \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.bbc.com\u002Fnews\u002Ftechnology-36528253\">introduced in two Belgian hospitals as receptionists\u003C\u002Fa> decades ago. But once I saw an older man speaking very angrily with Pepper, and he even wanted to hit him because he wanted to get so badly to the doctor. I tried to defend Pepper and told the man that “Mister, you cannot say such things because you will hurt Pepper,” but he said to me that it’s just a robot. That made me really sad. Pepper helps so many people! When my dad comes home from work, sometimes he lets me play with him, and that’s the best. We build together so many things! My favorite was that we made once an entire city with skyscrapers in the sky!\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The trick is that you put on the goggles, and then the buildings appear out of nowhere – so they are real, but you cannot see them and cannot touch them, really. They exist in another reality. But it’s not weird at all, we have something similar at school, too. My favorite teacher, Ms. Molly, always makes us use the goggles and that’s how she teaches history. The other day, she showed us the castle of King Arthur! That was something! What will we eat? What will we as interplanetary people worry about? Where will we find peace and how will we connect with each other? So, I often scribble down my thoughts into short&nbsp;tales and ask&nbsp;the question whether that&#8217;s a scene&nbsp;I wish for in the future. Here are three of my latest sci-fi short stories. What do you think? Should the future look like these?\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003C!--more-->\n\n\n\n\u003Ch2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u003Cstrong>Dr. Big Brother\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>I ordered steak. The menu item blinked in red twice in my digital lens but I didn’t care. I was very hungry and I love meat. Since it became possible to merge our genomic data with health records in the cloud synchronized with each and every digital device, choosing food has turned into a stressful activity. They wanted to tell me what and when to eat and it has made me crazy. They knew better what me and especially my body needed.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>My grandfather told me that back in the day nobody knew what the hell you were eating. You just went to a restaurant, ordered and finished your meal. Simple as that. I know they died from a lot of diseases without any foreseeable signs but still. That freedom of choice is special.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>I don’t even understand why we bother to eat at all today. Just choose whatever is tailored to me and bring it in a powder or something. It’s not worth the effort when it’s so expensive to eat less healthy foods or choose what is out of my metabolic bounds.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Sometimes I wish I were in the old ages with infections, sudden deaths, and short lifespans. But man, going out to eat whatever you want must have been a hell of an experience. Fluffy, green grass below me on the top of the hill that looks down on Japanese monasteries. Trees are all around and the wind is softly blowing. Just the right temperature at just the best time of the day in the early morning hours. I&#8217;m not cold or hot yet the Sun is shining gorgeously. I love spending time here. That&#8217;s the only place where I feel calm and my mind is still energized. I come here whenever I can, which doesn&#8217;t happen often nowadays. This place has a special meaning to me as I never made it to Japan. Well, I never will&#8230;\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>My mask just became transparent and electrodes were released from my skin. I guess my time is over. There is no calm sound of the gentle wind but the constant buzzing of ventilators. I don&#8217;t even hear them anymore unless I get back from my virtual sessions. It&#8217;s room temperature, there is artificial light and there is no grass just the metal floor below me. Exactly what you would expect from the interiors of a spaceship. Long corridors, narrow spaces, and small rooms. It makes me feel I don&#8217;t belong here.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>When everyone and everything you know is years away from you, it&#8217;s hard to keep it together. These virtual sessions I use for meditation are the only things that keep me sane during the long flight. You have your chores but it takes more to satisfy a curious human being like me. I have been bonding with the robots on board and I can have sessions with my loved ones at home. I can wait 20 minutes for a response. We signed up for the greatest mission of humanity thus we mustn&#8217;t be weak. Yet, I hope we don&#8217;t lose what makes us human on the way. I hope we create green hills, clouds, and trees on the Red Planet.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>If we cannot make it happen, if Mars remains a pile of stones without a soul, we will pretend it has one so we will belong there. Just like at home. The symptoms were rare and it just didn’t add up. Before the patient arrived at our ward, we had already discussed every potential diagnosis that popped up in our minds. We knew we needed help.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>While the patient was admitted to the OR, I uploaded the case to the cloud, which was a quick process because of the new control with new hand gestures. My lens recorded everything blurring out the patient’s face for privacy, and the digital network of colleagues around the world jumped right on it.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>By the time we determined the patient’s status, the first ideas came in and one of them seemed particularly matching. That Japanese physician had the same case a while ago. I projected his holographic image into the OR so we could discuss it live. During the short discussion, he dropped a few guidelines his artificial intelligence assistant found and we could feed our system with it.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The treatment was on the way but my lens started projecting data into my vision. A new patient just got admitted.
