The novelty is the array of digital technologies and internet-based communication tools aiming at appeasing that appetite beyond just asking doctors for advice. How could medical professionals help their patients understand the most possible about diseases, drugs, treatments and alternative care with the help of innovative means? The latter are not the exclusive source of medical information anymore: \u003Cstrong>search engines, online journals, and glossaries, patient support groups on social media, apps, and even chatbots are widely available if someone has a question about health-related issues\u003C\u002Fstrong>.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>And \u003Cstrong>statistics show that people are more and more inclined to use the powers of these tools for self-education to take care of their own or their loved ones’ health\u003C\u002Fstrong>. 80 percent of Internet users in the US, or about 93 million Americans, have searched for a health-related topic online, according to a \u003Ca href=\"http:\u002F\u002Fwww.nbcnews.com\u002Fid\u002F3077086\u002Ft\u002Fmore-people-search-health-online\u002F#.W7I6lUBMQ2w\">study released in July 2018 by the Pew Internet &amp; American Life Project\u003C\u002Fa>. Most frequently people went online to look up information about a specific disease or medical problem (63 percent) or particular medical treatment or procedure (47 percent). They were also interested in diet, nutrition, and vitamins (44 percent) and exercise or fitness information (36 percent).\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>A Eurobarometer survey found already back in 2014 that six out of ten Europeans go online when looking for health information and 90 percent said that the Internet helped them to improve their knowledge about health-related topics. This allows patients to view their exact results and receive a hands-on experience to understand their current medical conditions. The Department of Oncology at Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark has been using VR since 2007 to offer visual understanding for patients undergoing radiation treatment. We believe it is always worth investing time and energy in new technologies with a mindset like that. They recruited 800 working adults from Singapore and randomly assigned them to various groups. They could get into a control group, a tracker only group, or one of the following reward groups: one with cash rewards and another one with rewards given to a charity of the individual’s choice. The incentives were allocated based on meeting weekly goals of number of steps over a period of six months. The researchers assessed physical activity outcomes, including steps and activity bouts, and health outcomes, including weight and blood pressure at study conclusion and after one year, six months after incentives ended.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The findings show that regardless of physical activity levels of participants before the study began, activity trackers alone or when combined with rewards designated for charity did not increase activity levels.
